Police arrest suspect in beating, kidnapping
New Orleans police have arrested a suspect in a beating and kidnapping seen on security video from a downtown hotel.
Police said Saturday that 35-year-old Elvin Terrell, whose address was not given, surrendered at Orleans Parish Prison.
Police said Terrell was booked with domestic second-degree battery, domestic kidnapping, child desertion, child endangering and cruelty to a juvenile.
Security video shows a man and woman arguing in the hotel lobby about 4:50 a.m. Friday. The man begins beating the woman. Outside the hotel, video shows another woman apparently trying to intervene, but the man puts the unconscious beating victim into a car and drives away.
Police said detectives later found a 6-year-old boy, uninjured, in a room rented by one of the people involved. The child was placed in protective custody. Investigators have made contact with a woman claiming to be the child’s mother, but she is not cooperating with investigators
Man critical after shooting in Algiers
A man was listed in critical condition at a hospital on Saturday afternoon after being shot, New Orleans police said.
The shooting happened about 2:30 p.m. in the 3800 block of Texas Drive in Algiers, said Officer Frank Robertson, a New Orleans Police Department spokesman. The victim, whose name and age police did not release, drove himself to the hospital after the shooting, Robertson said.
Police did not immediately have any information on a motive or suspect.
Police search for missing N.O. East man
New Orleans police are asking for the public’s help in locating a missing New Orleans East man.
Guy Holmes, 43, was last seen about 3:30 p.m. Thursday at his home in the 7700 block of Lady Gray Street, police said.
Relatives told police that Holmes is known to leave his home for short amounts of time but normally returns the same day. This is the first time he has left and not returned home or communicated with family members, police said.
Holmes has a brain injury and needs medication, police said.
Holmes is 5-feet-4-inches tall, weighs about 110 pounds and was last seen wearing a black shirt, green or brown shorts and slippers.
