Zephyrs lose late lead, fall to Oklahoma City

Carlos Perez led off the ninth inning with a home run to left field, completing a comeback by Oklahoma City on Saturday night at Zephyr Field.

The RedHawks took a two games to one lead in the series with the final game Sunday.

New Orleans led 5-3 entering the eighth inning, but the RedHawks tied the score against Rob Waite, who gave up two runs on three hits and a walk and didn’t get an out.

Former Tulane pitcher Josh Zeid pitched a scoreless ninth for his 10th save. He has not allowed a run since June 18 against the Z’s at Zephyr Field.

Zach Phillips (4-1) gave up the homer to Perez.

It’s Kids Day. Children ages 2-12 are admitted for $5. Space Walk inflatables will provide pregame entertainment. After the game, children will be allowed to run the bases and play catch on the field.

Also, Peppa Pig will make an appearance.


Pitcher Tom Koehler may have a short stint with the Zephyrs.

Koehler was optioned to New Orleans on Thursday when the Marlins brought pitcher Henderson Alvarez off the 60-day disabled list.

However, Miami and the Los Angeles Dodgers made a trade that Saturday night that involved Marlins pitcher Ricky Nolasco.

The Marlins got three minor-league prospects, and Koehler is expected to replace Nolasco on the roster.

Baton Rouge native Josh Wall is among the Albuquerque Isotopes prospects the Marlins acquired.


Zack Cox, just called up from Double-A Jacksonville, was to make third start at third base Saturday. However, when the Zephyrs ran on to the field to begin the game, Nick Green was at third. Cox appeared to injure himself in Friday’s game when fielding a grounder, but the Zephyrs have not released anything official. … Matt Downs has 10 extra-base hits in 75 at-bats since being moved to the seventh spot in the batting order. In his 163 at-bats from other spots in the lineup, Downs has just five extra-base hits. Going back to the 2011 season, Downs has hit .302 from the seventh spot. … The Zephyrs have struck out 92 times in the past nine games, pushing their season total to 742 this season. At their current pace, the Z’s would end the season with 1,199 strikeouts. The 2009 Zephyrs set the team record of 1,081.
