A report on ESPN.com Saturday said the Charlotte Bobcats have begun the process of becoming the Charlotte Hornets once again.

The story was first reported by CBSSports.com.

Charlotte’s original NBA franchise entered the league as the Hornets in 1988 and became the New Orleans Hornets when the franchise relocated for the 2002 season.

New Orleans changed its name to the Pelicans earlier this year.

The CBSSports.com report said are hoping to acquire digital assets in an effort to restore their old nickname.

NBA commissioner-in-waiting Adam Silver recently told Bobcats season-ticket holders any change could take 18 months.
