Police: Man with pistol shoots boy, 3
NEW ORLEANS — Seventh District detectives Friday night arrested a 37-year-old man on a complaint he accidently shot a 3-year-old boy in the hand, New Orleans police said in a news release.
Terrance Robinson, 6000 block of Kuebel Drive, was booked with negligent injuring and being a felon in possession of a firearm after confessing to authorities he was playing with a loaded gun on the front porch of the boy’s home about 6 p.m. Friday, Officer Frank Robertson, spokesman for the New Orleans Police Department, said in the release
Robinson told police he found the firearm in a neighborhood earlier that day, Robertson said.
Robertson said the 3-year-old sustained the gunshot wound to his right hand when the boy pulled the pistol from Robinson’s hand, causing it to fire.
The toddler was taken to a hospital by his parents, who were home at the time, Robertson said. The boy was still being treated Saturday for the minor injury, he said.
Investigators determined Robinson was a family friend and a convicted felon with prior arrests for armed robbery, felon possession of a firearm, possession of crack cocaine, resisting an officer, battery and driving under the influence, Robertson said.
