Citing league sources, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Crennel, fired last month by the Kansas City Chiefs, and Mangini, who formerly was head coach of the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns, are being eyed for openings on the Saints’ defensive staff. Crennel and Mangini, who both coach the 3-4 base defense that Saints coach Sean Payton said the team will switch toafter firing defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo on Thursday, could both be targeted by Payton. Crennel and Mangini were on the same New England Patriots’ coaching staff when they won three Super Bowl titles with Crennel serving as defensive coordinator and Mangini coaching defensive backs. The Saints also need a secondary coach after Payton fired Ken Flajole on Thursday as well. Kalil joins Pro Bowl roster MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota Vikings rookie left tackle Matt Kalil is headed to Hawaii. Kalil was added to the NFC’s Pro Bowl roster Friday to replace Washington Redskins tackle Trent Williams, who is injured. Kalil was the fourth overall draft pick in April. and immediately established himself as a top player at one of the game’s most important positions. He helped pave the way for Adrian Peterson to rush for 2,000 yards and usually faced the opponent’s top pass rusher as the protector for Christian Ponder’s blind side. Raiders hire Sanders ALAMEDA, Calif. — The Oakland Raiders have rounded out their coaching staff by hiring former NFL defensive coordinator Bob Sanders as linebackers coach. Coach Dennis Allen announced the move Friday to fill the final vacancy on his staff. He had earlier hired Greg Olson as offensive coordinator, Tony Sparano as offensive line coach and Bobby April as special teams coordinator. Sanders spent the past four seasons in Buffalo, coaching defensive linemen and linebackers. He was defensive coordinator in Green Bay for three seasons before that. Sanders also served as a linebackers coach in Miami with the Dolphins. Chiefs announce hires KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs have hired former Packers defensive back Al Harris to coach their secondary and Mark DeLeone as a quality control coach and also retained assistant strength coach Brent Salazar. They also announced Friday the signing of wide receiver Tyler Shoemaker. Harris will begin his first full season as an assistant coach. The two-time Pro Bowl defensive back played 15 seasons for the Eagles, Packers, Dolphins and Rams, and has ties to new Chiefs coach Andy Reid and general manager John Dorsey. DeLeone spent last season working for the Jets, while Salazar will begin his seventh season as the assistant strength coach in Kansas City. Shoemaker, an undrafted free agent in 2012, was released by Tampa Bay before training camp.
