Father fatally runs over child in driveway

Slidell — A 10-month-old Slidell-area girl died Thursday evening after her father accidentally ran over her, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

The accident happened about 5 p.m. after the infant crawled from her home in the 300 block of Lenwood Drive and wound up in the driveway, said Capt. George Bonnett, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

A family member called 911 after the girl’s father ran over her, Bonnett said. Authorities rushed the baby to Ochsner Medical Center — North Shore, where doctors pronounced her dead a short time later, Bonnett said.

Investigators were still speaking to family members Thursday evening, Bonnett said. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor, and deputies do not expect to make any arrests, he said.

The Sheriff’s Office has not release the identity of the girl or her father.
