CVB to offer hospitality training

All across the city, there’s an effort to spruce up things to impress visitors who will arrive in days for the Super Bowl.

Tangibles aside, officials with the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau are helping some businesses prepare for the Super Bowl by inviting the Disney Institute to town in an effort to give pointers to service-industry personnel.

“The obvious thing everyone says is why does New Orleans need hospitality training? For something like the Super Bowl, we want to go the extra mile,” said Kelly Schulz, a spokeswoman for the CVB.

Free training sessions offered early this week will be held for management staff and frontline employees at any business that deals with the public, Schulz said. Management training intended for business owners or any employee in a supervisory role are three hours and will be held Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon or from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Frontline employee training sessions will last two hours and will be held Wednesday. The two-hour sessions will be offered from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., noon to 2 p.m. or 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Training sessions will be held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center on the 200 level above Hall H. Parking is available across the street in convention center parking lot F.

To register for the sessions, call (504) 566-5076 to reserve a spot for training. The Disney Institute, Disney’s professional development arm, offered the same training last year in Indianapolis before it hosted the Super Bowl.

“To be able to say you partnered with Disney, it adds credibility,” Schulz said. “This is going to send a message we are not resting on our laurels.”
