Our Views: La. talent gets spotlight

We’re happy the recent Oscar nominations included recognition for some home-grown movie talent.

Four nominations went to people connected with “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” an idiosyncratic little Louisiana-made movie about a little girl displaced from her coastal home. Meanwhile, former Louisiana resident Tony Kushner received an Oscar nomination for his screenplay adaptation of Doris Kearns Goodwin’s “Team of Rivals” for the movie “Lincoln.”

We congratulate all of the nominees with Louisiana ties on being singled out as Oscar candidates. Their presence in the Oscar race reflects well on Louisiana as a home for creative talent. We wish them well in the race.

But in the eyes of Louisiana residents, these nominees are already winners.

"Former Louisiana resident Tony Kushner." He's one of themthere homersexshuls who's done went and married hisself to another man. We don't need that sort around here.

These are great talents surely. Look at their viewpoints and imagine what direction we need to go here in Louisiana. We have work to do.
