Man found dead in 7th Ward backyard

Police are investigating their fourth homicide of the month after the body of an unidentified man was located on North Rocheblave Street.

The body was located just before 2 p.m. after police responded to an anonymous report of a someone dead in a yard in the 1600 block of North Rocheblave. The man was found lying in a backyard and appeared to have been shot multiple times, police said. The anonymous caller said that the man had been lying in the yard for some time, police reported.

No other details on the victim were released, and police are trying to determine a motive and suspects.

Police investigating shooting in Gentilly

Police investigated a shooting that was reported in the 2500 block of Acacia Street at about 12:48 p.m., Officer Garry Flot said.

Police were called out to the scene and located an unidentified man with a gunshot wound to the back. Flot did not have any information on the severity of the victim’s wound, and no other details were released on the shooting.

Man, 20, shot while
standing outside

A local man was shot in the buttocks Monday night while standing outside on Castlewood Drive in eastern New Orleans.

The 20-year-old victim told police he was standing outside when he heard a “pop.” He realized he had been grazed by a bullet but sustained no other injuries.

Man robbed of car while leaving work

An armed robber stole a 40-year-old man’s wallet and car as he was leaving work Monday night.

The victim reported the incident in the 2800 block of St. Philip Street at about 7:07 p.m., police said. The man was leaving his job when an armed man approached him and demanded he turn out his pockets. The victim complied but then started running. The man’s vehicle was later recovered by police.

Woman carjacked
in her driveway

A 26-year-old woman was carjacked at gunpoint as she returned to her Broadmoor home on Monday night.

The incident was reported in the 4300 block of Jena Street around 9:39 p.m.

The woman told police she had pulled into her driveway when two men approached her car from the rear and put a gun to her head. The men demanded the victim’s keys and wireless phone, according to an initial report.

The victim said the men tried to leave the scene with her in the vehicle, but she managed to escape before they left.

Man, 47, accused of raping disabled boy

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a Gretna man Monday after he was accused of raping a disabled boy two years ago.

Charles “C-Ray” Thibodeaux, 47, was booked with aggravated rape and remains in custody at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. Thibodeaux is accused of raping an autistic boy on three occasions at his former Bridge City home in 2010.

The child told his mother that he waited to report the rape because Thibodeaux threatened to whip him with a belt and because he promised to buy him a toy.

Man gets four years for selling heroin

A 20-year-old New Orleans drug dealer was sentenced to four years in federal prison for selling less than an ounce of heroin in the Lower 9th Ward.

U.S. District Judge Judy Jay Zainey sentenced Devin Morgan on Tuesday.

Morgan admitted to selling roughly 20 grams of heroin over two months in 2012. He was arrested as part of the Ninth Ward Initiative, which targets violent offenders in the Lower 9th Ward.
