But this is New Orleans, and it’s Mardi Gras. Every year, the Royal Sonesta greases the poles outside the hotel to discourage overzealous Carnival revelers from climbing up to the balconies. And why not make it a party with live music? The “Greasing of the Poles” is free, but a sense of humor is required. 300 Bourbon St. Friday, 10 a.m. A LITTLE BIT OF ROCK The Fair Grounds thinks people want more fun on Mardi Gras — but just a little. The track is staging a concert by Mini Kiss, the Kiss tribute band composed of “little people,” between races on Fat Tuesday. The diminutive foursome, a popular cover band in its own right, will perform Kiss hits on a stage near the winner’s circle starting at 4 p.m. General admission for live racing and Mini Kiss is $5. MARDI GRAS INDIAN ORCHESTRA The Hi-Ho Lounge hosts the fifth annual Mardi Gras Indian Orchestra Tuesday, with Indian chiefs Sunpie Barnes of the North Side Skull & Bones Gang, Juan Pardo of the Golden Comanches, David Montana of Yellow Pocahontas and musicians Camile Baudoin, Sam Hotchkiss, Reggie Scanlan, Tim Green, Helen Gillet, C.R.
