Man killed in wreck of ATV in Algiers

A 27-year-old man died on New Year’s Day after the four-wheeler he was riding in Algiers crashed into another vehicle.

The incident happened at La. 406 and Woodland Highway shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said Kevin Brown was riding the vehicle on the roadway when he veered into oncoming traffic and struck an SUV.

Brown died from his injuries en route to a local hospital.

New Year’s stabbing suspect arrested

A 27-year-old man spent New Year’s Day in jail after New Orleans police said he stabbed an acquaintance after the two of them argued.

The incident was reported shortly before 5:45 a.m. in the 4800 block of Annunciation Street. Police said Christopher Hyer was walking with the victim when the two men began arguing and fighting.

The victim told police that Hyer produced an unknown object and began cutting the victim, who received cuts to the leg and hip.

Fight outside bar ends with stabbing

A fight early on New Year’s Day in the Marigny ended with one man receiving serious stab wounds to the body.

Police were called out to the Dragon’s Den bar in the 400 block of Esplanade Avenue around 5:51 a.m. Tuesday. Officers learned that an unidentified man had been stabbed during a fight with an unknown perpetrator.

The victim was taken to a local hospital in a private vehicle.

Police seek pair in beating, $30 robbery

New Orleans police are searching for two men who allegedly beat and robbed another man at gunpoint because of a debt.

The incident was reported shortly after 12:30 p.m. Monday in the 8000 block of Olive Street. The victim told police that he was at home when he heard a knock at his door. When he opened it, two unknown men pushed their way inside, brandishing weapons and demanding he pay up.

The victim told police that one of the men struck him in the head with a gun, while the other hit him with a wooden board. The victim said he was robbed of $30.

Man, 51, accused
of hitting mother, 75

A Kenner man was arrested Monday after police said he hit his 75-year-old mother during an argument.

Williams Adams, 51, was booked with simple battery of the infirm after being arrested at his home on Idaho Avenue.

According to an arrest report, Adams and his mother argued, and he struck her, leaving a cut on her hand and bruise on her eye.

Police: Man kissed teen during break-in

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a Marrero man on Tuesday after police said he kissed an unwilling 13-year-old.

Deputies booked Leopoldo Cruz, 56, with simple battery and unauthorized entry of a dwelling. They said he walked into his neighbor’s apartment through an unlocked back door and then began kissing the neighbor’s 13-year-old daughter, who was lying on a couch.

Cruz was arrested after deputies found him on his balcony at the apartment next door.

Man accused of using car as weapon

A night of drinking ended in jail for a Metairie man who police said hit four people with his car.

Brandon Steadman, 19, was booked with a host of charges, including driving while intoxicated and hit-and-run driving, after police said he tried to ram four men with his car Tuesday morning.

According to an arrest report, Steadman was at a party with the men earlier that night but left and began circling the block in his car.

When the men came outside and tried to walk to their vehicle, they said, Steadman tried to mow them down.

The victims were struck by the car, and police said Steadman then fled the scene.
