Christmas Eve slaying victim ID’d
New Orleans — Authorities have identified a man who was found shot to death Christmas Eve in the 6th Ward.
Darrien Delatte, 20, of New Orleans died after someone opened fire on him about 2:40 p.m. Monday, said John Gagliano, the Orleans Parish coroner’s chief investigator.
Police found Delatte on the sidewalk in front of a home in the 2300 block of Dumaine Street. He was shot multiple times and died on the scene, said officer Frank Robertson, a Police Department spokesman.
Police said they found a handgun on the scene but did not say whether they believe it was used in the crime or to whom it might have belonged.
Police have not released any information on a motive or suspect.
Homicide Detective Travis Ward is leading the investigation. Anyone with information on this shooting is asked to call Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
Man shot Monday
in Central City
New Orleans — A man was shot as he walked through Central City on Monday afternoon, police said.
The victim, whose age police did not provide, told investigators he was in the 2600 block of Louisiana Avenue about 2:50 p.m. when he heard gunshots in the area, according to a preliminary police log.
The victim then realized he was shot in the thigh. His injuries were not life-threatening.
In addition to the man’s injuries, police said two vehicles also were damaged during the shooting.
Investigators have not released any information on a suspect or motive.
Armed men rob convenience store
New Orleans — Two men robbed a Holly Grove convenience store at gunpoint Monday afternoon, police said.
The robbers walked into the J&P Supermarket in the 2900 block of Eagle Street about 4:20 p.m. and bought some chips, according to a preliminary police log.
After they made their purchase, one of the men walked behind the counter and grabbed one of the cashiers and put a gun to his head.
The other robber grabbed the money from the register and then ran out of the store with his accomplice, police said.
Neither cashier was injured. Police did not provide a description of the robbers.
