Deputies: Harvey woman arrested on consecutive days

A Harvey woman managed the feat of getting arrested by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office twice in two days, and both incidents apparently involved alcohol, authorities say.

Peggy Elerby, 26, was arrested on both Wednesday and Thursday after the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office says she got drunk twice, fought with police twice and urinated in front of a Harvey toy store once.

Elerby was booked with multiple charges including lewd conduct, resisting arrest, battery of a police officer and disturbing the peace.

According to arrest reports, the first incident happened Wednesday when deputies were called out to Elerby’s apartment in the 4200 block of Lac Du Bay after receiving a report of a disturbance. The deputy says that Elerby was clearly intoxicated when authorities arrived and became belligerent. When the deputy tried to enter the home, Elerby tried to bar the door, before cursing and pushing the deputy, the report states.

Elerby was forcibly subdued and taken into custody, where the report says she accidentally banged her head on a wall.

She was released from custody Thursday morning.

A few hours later, deputies were called out to a toy store in the 4800 block of Lapalco Boulevard after receiving reports that a woman was urinating in front of the business around 2:45 p.m. A report states that the woman, who was again obviously intoxicated, got into her vehicle while two small children were in the rear seat.

Witnesses reported that the woman fumbled with her car keys, and tried to get the vehicle started to leave. However, two witnesses blocked the vehicle in with their car to prevent her from driving. When a deputy arrived at the scene, Elerby again became belligerent, according to the report, and had to be subdued.

She was again arrested, but has since been released from custody. Elerby has a prior conviction for crimes against nature and is a registered sex offender.
