The nonprofit rescue’s Executive Director Ashley Goings said it was important that proceeds benefited another nonprofit organization. “Our group relies on the support of the Hammond community to assist us in achieving our goals of rehabilitating and rehoming as many dogs in need as possible,” Goings said. “Paws for a Cause is our way of saying thank you to the community by annually benefiting another local nonprofit that serves our area.” The fundraising event, held at Hammond’s Cate Square Park, included a 5K and 1-mile pet fun walk plus food, music and adoptable pets. Options Development Director Christie Gardiner said she is thankful for the dog rescue’s support. “Nonprofits are always raising money for their programs and services, and to have another nonprofit want to share proceeds from their own event is truly remarkable,” Gardiner said. “Ashley really knows the meaning of community, and we are so honored and grateful that she chose Options.” Options helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities live and work in the community.
