Adam Weedman, 39, of Ponchatoula, and Jeremy Seth Cook, 31, of Springfield, were involved in a dispute with one another on the interstate around 12:45 p.m. when Cook followed Weedman into a Chevron parking lot on Airport Road, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Dawn Panepinto said in a news release. Cook got out of his vehicle and began arguing with Weedman. Cook then returned to his vehicle, pulled out a handgun and shot Weedman in the leg. Weedman eventually wrestled the gun away from Cook, but the gun accidentally went off again and shot Weedman in the hand, Panepinto said. Weedman went to a hospital for surgical treatment of his injuries. A state Department of Public Safety officer was conducting a truck inspection in the parking lot when the incident occurred, said Trooper 1st Class Nick Manale, a State Police spokesman. The officer took the pair into custody, Manale said. Cook will be booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on counts of second-degree battery. The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests may be forthcoming, Panepinto said. Anyone with additional information about this shooting is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 554-5245.
