Around Livingston for Sept. 2, 2013 Around Livingston for Sept. 2, 2013 Advocate story Sept. 05, 2013 Comments The Livingston Parish School Board will hold a public hearing Thursday about its millage rates for the 2013-14 fiscal year. The board was set to conduct the public hearing at its Aug. 1 meeting. However, the hearing was pushed back after school system officials realized a law enacted during the 2013 legislative session establishing rules for public hearings on millages took effect the next day, School Superintendent John Watson said. The new law says public notices for hearings about taxes or millage rates have to be announced at least 30 days before the hearing takes place. The public hearing will be held during the School Board’s regularly scheduled meeting Thursday. The board will meet at its headquarters at 13909 Florida Blvd., in the town of Livingston. CHILP meeting The Citizens for Highways and Infrastructure in Livingston Parish will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Denham Springs-Walker Library, 8101 U.S. 190. The speaker will be State Rep. Library giveaways The Livingston Parish Library will celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month in September by hosting an online giveaway. Those interested can enter at www.mylpl.info starting Tuesday. Winners will be drawn Friday, Sept. 13, Sept. 20, and Sept. 27. The last day to enter is Sept. 26 at 11 p.m. Winners must be 18 years or older, provide a valid email address, and be able to pickup their prizes at any of the library branches. Republican women The Livingston Parish Republican Women will hold its monthly meeting at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Big Mike’s, 123 Aspen Square, Denham Springs. Guest speakers will be Paul Dietzel, candidate for Congress, District 6, and a representative from Mighty Moms, a local nonprofit organization. There is a charge for lunch. Chicken dinners Those interested in pre-ordering barbecue chicken dinners from the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 258, of Springfield, should pre-order no later than Wednesday. The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 258, of Springfield, will sell smoked barbecue chicken dinners from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the Arpadhon Cultural Building, located north on La. 43 from Interstate 12 or south of Albany on La. 43. Dinners are $7 and include one-half chicken, coleslaw, baked beans, roll and dessert. Dine in, on-site pick up, or delivery to the Albany, Springfield, Holden or Hammond areas is available.
