Holden man, 22, dies in St. Helena crash Holden man, 22, dies in St. Helena crash Advocate story Sept. 05, 2013 Comments GREENSBURG — A 22-year-old man died Tuesday evening in a single-vehicle crash on La. 37 near La. 449 in St. Helena Parish, a State Police spokesman said. Thomas Rowland, of Holden, was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Blazer north on La. 37 around 7 p.m. when the SUV failed to make it around a curve in the road, Trooper First Class Nick Manale said in a news release. The Blazer’s right side tires began to run off the road. Rowland overcorrected to the left, causing the vehicle to spin counterclockwise and cross both lanes of La. 37 before running off the road. Rowland’s SUV hit a culvert and overturned before coming to rest on its roof, Manale said. Rowland, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Helena Parish Coroner’s Office. Troopers suspect alcohol use is a factor in the crash and have sent a toxicology sample to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
