The board approved Labarre Associates of Denham Springs as the professional of record for the high school addition. Ziler Architects of Lafayette was named professional of record for the elementary school project. The additions include a new band practice hall at the high school and a classroom addition at the elementary school, School Board President Malcolm Sibley said during the board meeting. The two schools are in Sibley’s district. Sibley said construction of the band practice hall at Doyle High has become a necessity because of an expanding band program at the school. “We just don’t have enough room to take care of them,” Sibley said. Other business coming before the board included: CHANGE ORDERS: The board approved change orders for construction projects at Denham Springs High School and Denham Springs Elementary. The board OK’d an increase of $2,012 for renovations at Hornsby Gym at Denham Springs High School, bumping the total cost to $759,512. The renovations include gas pipe modifications and electrical work. The board agreed to a change order that decreases the total cost of parking lot expansions at Hornsby Gym. Originally expected to cost $456,040, the expansion is now pegged at $405,614 — a difference of $50,425. The board approved a change order for Denham Springs Elementary that brings down the expected cost of window repairs by $1,694. FACULTY PROMOTION: The board approved Joshua Day as an assistant principal at Southside Junior High School. Day was awarded a three-year contract. Day has 11 years of experience in teaching, including the last year as a substitute assistant principal at Southside Junior High. He has taught at Springfield Middle School, Natalbany Elementary School and Loranger High School.
