Pilot Club slates ‘De Doo Fall Festival’

The Pilot Club of Denham Springs will host the “Hoop De Doo Fall Festival” Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Denham Springs, 308 N. River Road.

A variety of games and activities will be available for toddlers to elementary-age children. Refreshments will be provided. Admission is $15 per child.

Pilot Club Board Member Terri Borde said each child will be allowed to dress in his or her favorite non-scary costume, play games and make seasonal crafts, and have opportunities to win fun food and prizes through a variety of games and skill events. Other activities include a “Do-It-Yourself” photo booth, face painting, and demonstrations by the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office and Denham Springs Fire Department.

Borde said the Pilot Club gives monetary support to the Alzheimer Association, Cancer Society, Family Resource Center, Livingston Youth and Family Counseling, McMains Developmental Center, Special Olympics, Latchkey Kids Program, Women Outreaching Women, Mighty Moms, Project Graduation and Crusade for Kids.

Other programs that the club supports include Wounded Warriors National Program, Assess the Need, Salvation Army, Lions Club, Livingston Parish’s Life Skills Apartment, Denham Springs Anchor Club and Walker Ball Field for Special Needs Children. The Pilot Club also is the major sponsor of the Kidz Korner Playground, which is designed to accommodate children with special needs, allowing children of all abilities to play together.

Tickets can be purchased from Pilot Club members by calling (225) 202-6160 or (225) 573-9633.

LEONet registering SLU students for fall

Southeastern Louisiana University will continue to register students for the fall 2013 semester, university officials said this week. By accessing LEONet, students can register, search the schedule of classes and check their balance due on tuition and fees.

“We continue to receive inquiries from students wishing to register for classes this fall,” said Lori Fairburn, director of Enrollment Services. “Because of this demand, we are canceling our originally planned ‘dead days’ when no registration activities would be allowed.”

Final schedule adjustment ends at 5 p.m. Aug. 20. Students who do not plan to attend the fall semester should drop all classes before the end of the final schedule adjustment to avoid financial responsibility.
