The Parish Council already had been serving as the board of supervisors. The Economic Development District collects sales taxes within the Juban Crossing development area, Scott Crawford, an attorney for developer Creekstone Companies, said. The Community Development District assesses property taxes in the district. The move came the same night the council rejected redirecting more road sales tax revenue to the developers of the project for road and drainage work. SLU department hosts 5K run/walk Southeastern Louisiana University’s Department of Recreational Sports and Wellness is hosting “Scorcher Torture,” a 5K run/walk, at 6 p.m. Friday in conjunction with the Hammond Downtown Development District’s Hot August Night. The run will begin at North Oak Park and end at Cate Square in downtown Hammond. Entry fees are $15 for active Recreational Sports and Wellness members and $20 for nonmembers. Proceeds will go to North Oak Park beautification. Registration will be at the Recreational Sports and Wellness’ Claude B. Pennington Student Activity Center, at University Avenue and General Pershing Avenue in Hammond, at the Anytime Fitness Hammond location at 117 S.
