Allen IIIWALKER — Police arrested a 33-year-old man Friday accused of growing $16,000 worth of marijuana in a tent house erected inside a Pendarvis Lane barn, a Walker Police Department spokesman said. John H. Allen, of 12404 Pendarvis Lane, Walker, was booked in the Livingston Parish Detention Center on counts of manufacturing, distribution and possession of Schedule I narcotics and unauthorized use of a moveable, police Capt. John Sharp said. Walker police were called to Allen’s home around 9:30 a.m. about a complaint that Allen was using a vehicle without the owner’s consent, Sharp said. When officers went to Allen’s backyard to look for the vehicle, they found a barn in the back and asked Allen if they could examine it. Sharp said the officers then discovered inside the barn a tent about 5 feet wide, 5 feet long and 7 feet tall housing 16 marijuana plants, each about 24 to 28 inches tall. The tent structure used two lights and reflective mylar to reflect light on the plants. The officers then contacted State Police narcotics detectives, who seized the plants and the structure, he said. The estimated street value of the marijuana is $16,000. Allen remained jailed Friday afternoon with his bail set at $125,000, Sharp said.
