SLU seniors’ artwork on display

The artwork of Southeastern Louisiana University graduating seniors will be on display through May 15 at the university’s Contemporary Art Gallery in East Stadium.

The spring 2013 Senior Exhibition features some of the finest artwork from the 32 graduating seniors of the department, organizers said. It is the largest class to date, university officials said. The hundreds of pieces represent all media — graphic design, sculpture, painting, drawing, print making, photography, ceramics and more.

The Contemporary Art Gallery hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, with extended hours until 8 p.m. Wednesdays. For information, call associate professor and gallery director Dale Newkirk at (985) 549-5080.

SPCA to host adoption event

The SPCA of Livingston will have pets available for adoption from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday at the PetSmart, 1653 Millerville Road, Baton Rouge.

Puppy and dog adoption donations vary, organizers said.

Several breeds and large and small dogs of all ages will be available.

Adoption applications are required and the adoption donation covers spay/neuter and age appropriate vaccines. Each adopter will receive a free bag of food, coupons and a small gift while supplies last, organizers said.

This is the largest multi-group tent adoption event of the year, with many Animal Welfare Groups participating at every PetSmart location across the country, they said.

“Adoption is one of the key ways to save pets and end pet homelessness, not to mention enrich our own lives with a loving companion,” said Susana Della Maddalena, executive director of PetSmart Charities Inc.
