Mississippi man killed in St. Helena Parish wreck

A Mississippi man died in a single-vehicle wreck on La. 10 on Thursday morning, State Police reported.

Troopers identified the victim as James Ponder, 26, of Mount Olive, Miss.

Ponder was traveling west in a 2007 Ford F-750 auger truck when he failed to slow for stopped traffic and ran off the right side of the highway to avoid a collision and overturned, according to a release from Troop L.

Ponder, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Helena Parish Coroner’s Office.

Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, State Police reported.
