The cost is $40, and participants will create a puppet and write a skit to be performed at the end of the day. Concert features Steve Campbell The Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the House of Grace personal care home will host a concert at 5 p.m. Feb. 23 at First Baptist Church in Denham Springs. The event will showcase vocalists Carlton Jones and Jeremy Downey, country singer Perry Walton with Terry Bankston on harmonica, Tracey Ardoin and Jennifer Edgar, 10-year-old fiddler Jacey Jacobson, and Michelle Morgan with Robert Reynolds and the Rosie & The Riveters stage band. The featured artist is Alabama native Steve Campbell. Also performing are three-time magician of the year David Miller and stage actor Lyndon Arledge as Cajun humorist Justin Wilson. Miss Louisiana Teen USA Bailey Hidalgo will also make a guest appearance, organizers said. Tickets are $10 at the door. Workshops cover starting a business The Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southeastern Louisiana University along with SCORE Northshore Chapter will host a comprehensive two-day workshop to test new business ideas and get entrepreneurs started on the right path, organizers said. The Simple Steps for Starting Your Business Series includes a two-day session to teach the basic concepts involved in assessing a business idea, marketing products or services, understanding business financials, funding and financing a business. Sandy Summers, assistant director of the SBDC, said three introductory workshops, called “Start up Basics,” will be offered at no charge for individuals to determine if the series is right for them. Start up Basics will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at the SBDC, 1514 Martens Drive, Hammond; Tuesday at the St. Tammany Center, 21454 Koop Drive, Mandeville, and Feb. 26 at Living the Word International Church Training Center. Simple Steps will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 6 and March 7 at Southeastern’s St. Tammany Center. While the introductory workshop (Start up Basics) is free, the cost to attend the two-day workshop is $100. Those who fully register before March 5 will pay $75.
