Father, son arrested on marijuana charges

Livingston Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested a father and his son after deputies found three marijuana plants growing inside their J.B. Averett Road home, the Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

Cary Caruso Sr., 44, and Derek Caruso, 19, were booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on Dec. 10 on one count each of cultivation of schedule I drugs.

Sheriff’s deputies had received drug-related complaints about the Carusoes’ house at 17534 J.B. Averett Road, Sheriff Jason Ard said in a news release.

Detectives went to the home Dec. 10 and smelled marijuana inside , Ard said.

Detectives searched the house and found two marijuana plants growing in a machine that watered and kept light on them, Ard said. Detectives found another marijuana plant growing in a bucket, he said.

Cary and Derek Caruso each posted bail of $100,000 and were released from the Livingston Parish Detention Center, Ard said.

This is one of the stupidest things I've read in awhile. What a complete waste of resources. LP has a lot worse criminal activity that the police could devote their time to instead two harmless guys with 3 pot plants.

The Free State of Livingston is notorious for extreme bail bonds. Theirs is a white, Republican conformist culture, and they will always be the last to change. I recommend moving to a state where marijuana is not a crime. Marijuana should be treated the same as tobacco or alcohol.

This is a perfect example of how screwed up our laws (OUR POLITICIANS) are. Three plants is not for distribution which is why they were not charged with intent to distribute. Looks like personal use only. Although I do not condone this action it's strange that the other day two people were arrested for stealing 48 pounds of cocaine one time and 15 pounds of cocaine another time from the clerk of courts evidence room. They were charged with everything from distribution to malfeasance in office. Their bond was $30,000!! Others involved in this same case were charged with distrubution and extortion and their bond was $32,500. Now whats wrong with this picture? I will tell you, we have idiot politicions making the laws. The same reason elected officials (all politicians, including judges, parish sheriffs, DA's, parish presidents, mayors, the governor and some school officials ARE NOT REQUIRED BY LAW AND CAN NOT BE FORCED TO TAKE DRUG TEST. I mean do you really think they will vote to make themselves accountable. Reminds me of the story on judges about 6 months ago. How so many of them missed work to attend seminars as far away as Hawaii. How some were not on the bench nearly half of the year! One female black judge missed approximately 50 days on the bench because she was sick. HAHA. I think if I was her I would retire and get myself some medical help to determine why I am so sick all the time.
