Three courses comprise the program, which uses QuickBooks 2012 software. Bookkeeping Level 1: QuickBooks 2012 is designed as an introductory course that will cover basic accounting terms, the setup of a cash basis business in QuickBooks, financial report processing and basic payroll entry and terminology. Taught by Deborah Anderson, the course will be from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays from Feb. 19 through March 12 at the Livingston Parish Literacy and Technology Center in Walker, 9261 Florida Blvd. The cost is $375, which includes the textbook. The workforce development course, when combined with Bookkeeping Level II: QuickBooks 2012 and Bookkeeping: QuickBooks Intuit Certified User Test Review, will lead to a well-rounded certificate in bookkeeping. Each course will also be eligible for continuing education units. Bookkeeping, accounting and auditing occupations hold a four-star rating in Louisiana and are considered a level one demand occupation, according to the Louisiana Workforce Commission. Women’s ministry selling fireworks Women Outreaching Women will sell discounted fireworks through Jan. 1 at 26852 4-H Club Road, Denham Springs. The store will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday. The store will be closed on Christmas Day but will open at 9 a.m. on New Year’s Eve, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on New Year’s Day. The crisis hotline number is (225) 665-9100. SLU limiting access to campus for break Southeastern Louisiana University will limit campus access while closed for its annual holiday break. During the closure, beginning Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. and ending Jan. 3 at 6 a.m., only essential personnel and students who are living on campus will be permitted access. The policy is being implemented to help ensure the safety of faculty, staff and students during the holiday break and to better safeguard university property, university officials said. Students will have access to their residence halls via SGA Drive or Texas Avenue. The Southeastern Oaks apartment complex and the Village residence area are not affected by the closure. Faculty and other individuals seeking access to campus should call the University Police Department at (985) 549-2222 to make arrangements. The University Police Department is open around the clock to assist with all inquiries or special needs.
