Dec 14, 2012 12:07 Livingston-Tangipahoa Briefs for Dec. 6, 2012 Livingston-Tangipahoa Briefs for Dec. 6, 2012 Advocate story Dec. 14, 2012 Comments Traffic to be heavy for SLU ceremony Motorists and visitors planning to attend Southeastern Louisiana University’s commencement ceremonies Saturday should anticipate heavy traffic and route changes affecting University Avenue between Interstate 55 and North Cherry Street. Louisiana insurance executive C. Allen Bradley Jr., of DeRidder, will speak at the ceremony, where approximately 1,200 students will receive associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees at the 10 a.m. ceremony in the University Center. Carmen Bray, interim director of University Police, said the section of University Avenue between West Tornado Drive and SGA Drive will be restricted from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. that day. Local traffic will be allowed to proceed on University Avenue for as long as possible, but will be diverted through the campus as congestion increases. Prior to commencement, the University Center parking areas are expected to be filled early, and all traffic on University Avenue will be diverted. Eastbound commencement traffic will be diverted to West Tornado Drive for parking at the University Center, and westbound commencement traffic will be diverted to the campus at SGA Drive. Southeastern Lion Traxx shuttle buses will operate before and after the ceremony. Theater group sets ‘12 Angry Women’ The Livingston Parish Talented Theatre Department will present “12 Angry Women” on Dec. 13 through Dec. 16 at North Live Oak Elementary School, 36605 Outback Road, Denham Springs. The opening performance will begin at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13. Performances on Dec. 14 and Dec. 15 will begin at 7:30 p.m. The matinee on Dec. 16 begins at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students. ACT preparation courses scheduled Southeastern Louisiana University’s Division of Extended Studies will offer an ACT Preparation Course on its main campus and regional locations. Designed to assist high school students in developing skills to improve their ACT scores, the prep course will emphasize mathematics and English. The five-week offerings will be held on SLU’s main campus in Hammond and at the Livingston Literacy and Technology Center, 9261 Florida Blvd., Walker. In Hammond, three sessions of the ACT Prep Course will be offered from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays. The cost is $250, which includes materials. Dates of the sessions are, session one: Jan. 7 through Feb. 4; session two: March 4 through April 8; and session three: May 6 through June 3. The three sessions of the course in Walker will be taught from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays. Dates of the sessions are, session one: Jan. 10 through Feb. 7; session two: March 7 through April 11; and session three: May 9 through June 6.
