Cooking demo to offer nutrition tips

North Oaks Health System’s free Cooking Demonstration will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Alack Culinary Equipment and Supplies, 17420 U.S. 190 in Hammond.

Registration is required as space is limited. To register, call the North Oaks Special Events Hotline at (985) 230-2255 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

Representatives of the North Oaks Diabetes Education and Dietetic Internship programs will answer questions and demonstrate cooking techniques participants can use to cook delicious, nutritious meals while managing diabetes. Guests can sample diabetes-friendly foods. Recipe cards for the dishes prepared also will be provided.

Project Graduation to host runs/walks

The Denham Springs High School Project Graduation volunteers plan to sponsor a 5K run/walk and 1-mile fun run/walk along Greystone Country Club’s golf course Nov. 24.

The cost of registration is $20 before Nov. 14 and $25 after that date. The price for registration includes a T-shirt, refreshments during the race and food, drink and entertainment following the race. To guarantee a T-shirt for race day, participants must register by Nov. 14.

Race day registration will be from 7 a.m. to 7:15 a.m. The 1-mile fun run/walk will begin at 7:30 a.m., followed by the 5K race at 8 a.m.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Project Graduation, which will be May 17 at the North Park Auditorium after graduation ceremonies at Denham Springs High School.

Summit to focus
on children, society

A collaborative summit meeting to discuss key issues regarding children, families, schools and society in southeast Louisiana will be Thursday at Southeastern Louisiana University.

Sponsored by the College of Education and Human Development with financial support from Entergy, the free program will be held in the Kiva auditorium on the second floor of the university’s Teacher Education Center on North General Pershing Avenue.

The program is designed primarily for educators, school administrators and professionals in children’s advocacy and social services.

Speakers will make short presentations on a variety of topics from 12:30 p.m. to 4:40 p.m. John Fischetti, dean of the college, will present a keynote address at 5 p.m., followed by a panel discussion featuring various leaders in education, government and child advocacy service. Alumni to host meet, greet, eat

The Livingston Chapter of the Southeastern Louisiana University Alumni Association will host a meet-and-greet-and-eat at 6 p.m. Nov. 13 at the new Livingston library on Iowa Street. The evening will include entertainment and food, as well as remarks from university President John L. Crain.

All SLU graduates are invited.
