Denham Springs man arrested in porn case

Bail has been set at $10 million for a Denham Springs man booked on 100 counts of possessing pornography involving juveniles, the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office reported Friday.

Marvin Thornton, 49, 33161 Perkins Road, was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center without incident, attorney general’s spokeswoman Amanda Larkins said in a news release.

Thornton was on probation for a 2011 obscenity conviction at the time of his arrest, Larkins said. If convicted on the new counts, Thornton could face up to 20 years in prison for each count.

Thornton’s arrest came as part of a joint investigation involving the Attorney General’s High Technology Crime Unit, Louisiana Probation and Parole and the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, Larkins said.

Suspected cases of Internet crime, Larkins said, should be reported to the Attorney General’s High Technology Crime Unit at (800) 256-4506.

Just another in an endless series of examples of how man's "law" is used to violate the rights of the citizen. If this were a football game, the judge in question would be penalized for piling on.

I don't understand why so many of you chose to attack Mark instead of the issue. Do you really think a $10 million dollar bond in these type of cases are just? What he said is true, The purpose of a bond is to secure your appearance at trial, not to serve as punishment. These high bonds in Livingston Parish, needs to be investigated by someone. I don't know the accused, but what if the bond forces him to stay in jail and he is later found not guilty. Then what? I am sure that he will sooner or later take a deal whether he is really guilty or not to spare his family.

Mark is mad because "The district court correctly dismissed Plaintiffs’ suit because Plaintiffs failed to show that the conduct of Defendants was not objectively reasonable. Further, Plaintiffs failed to meet the burden of producing evidence of conspiracy. The judgment dismissing Defendants is in all respects" waaah, waaah.. the police harassed me... waaah waahhh....

As usual, no response from Mark about the facts and his tired agenda.

The purpose of a bond is to secure your appearance at trial, not to serve as punishment. Please read the 8th amendment, maybe that will help you, but I seriously doubt it.

With every post, MEM makes it more evident how ignorant he really is of how the law works. Either that or he thinks 1 charge should carry the same bond as 100 charges. Then again he probably just can't count.

This person will never be "cured" of such an "obsession".

Mark, Tim McVeigh killed a lot of kids and according to court documents, you agreed with his mission. LOL, change of heart? I don't think so.

If you have been a victim of abuse, you do not joke about such cases. Two thousand years sounds tough but the victims endure much worse.

if all he has done is look at pictures, then offer him a choice. either serve the full sentence of 200 years or 10-20 years with a full physical castration. either one will diminish his urges.

I obviously don't. Maybe Marvin would have gotten off easier had he killed someone.

You don't understand how bonds work. There is a set figure for each charge, and for him that is TIMES ONE HUNDRED!!! And honestly, as survivor of long term childhood sex abuse, I think he should have NO BOND!

The infamous fetus killer from Walker has a bond of $500,000.00, yet this guy has a TEN MILLION $$$ bond? LOL, government, ya' gotta love it.

Apparently the 8th Amendment doesn't apply in LP.

What is it with these through-the-clouds bonds in the Free State of Livingston Parish? LOL, most accused MURDERERS have bonds set lower than this.
