Dance academy to host open house
An open house and grand opening ceremony for the Northshore Irish Dance Academy will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Fellom Ballet Studio, 1506 N. Oak St., across from Southeastern Louisiana University.
Festivities will include Irish dance demonstrations, food, soft drinks and Irish music, organizers said.
The Northshore Irish Dance Academy will offer Irish dance classes year-round for students ages 4 to adult. The school will offer technique classes, choreography classes, and adult cardio classes as well as music classes.

Soccer tryouts rescheduled Sunday
The Livingston Parish Express middle school boys and girls soccer team tryouts, which was rained out last weekend, has been re-scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday at South Park. All interested students in fifth through eighth grades can attend. Those trying out are asked to bring cleats, shin guards, goalie gloves and water.

Computer science seminars upcoming
The Southeastern Louisiana University Department of Computer Science and Industrial Technology will offer a series of free seminars during the next several weeks.
Geared primarily for computer science students, faculty and area high school students interested in the field, the free seminars will be from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays in Fayard Hall, room 101, on North Oak Street. Free parking is available in the building lot.
The series is being held in partnership with Geocent, a Metairie-based information technology company with satellite offices in Baton Rouge, the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi, Huntsville, Ala., and Charleston, S.C. Presenters are all employees with Geocent.

Antique District to host fall festival
The Denham Springs Antique District will host its annual fall festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
More than 150 vendors featuring local and regional crafts, antiques and art will line the streets while a variety of entertainment will be presented on two stages.
This year’s entertainment includes Floyd Brown as well as a visit from the stars of Swamp People, organizers said. Rides are free for children. Mattie Street will be transformed into “Arts Avenue” with local artists exhibiting a variety of unique works.
Stages will be on Centerville Street and Train Station Park.
