Running for Office: Walker Alderman
WALKER — Bernie Torres Gryzbac says she will provide experience, leadership and passion if elected to the Walker Board of Aldermen on Nov. 6.
Gryzbac has served on the city’s Planning & Zoning Committee and the Alcohol Beverage Control Board. She also served on the steering committee for the Walker Comprehensive Master Plan, and experience that convinced her to run for the Board of Aldermen.
“Having had the chance to make educated, informed decisions that affect the people and businesses here is not something I take lightly,” Torres Gryzbac says in her campaign announcement. “The people of this city need and should have effective board members who study the issues, ask questions and make decisions based on what is good for the entire city.”
She says she believes she can use her experience and knowledge to help move the city in the right direction.
“I will study all of the issues and discuss them with the other council members and the people,” she says.
She said she wants to increase the economic growth of Walker, implement the Master Plan and address zoning changes.
Torres Gryzbac says she wants to present ideas and solutions for recreational areas in the western and southern parts of Walker, open a discussion for a skate park, and work with law enforcement to provide needed equipment.
She is a founder and vice president of the Livingston Parish Organization of Women and has served on the board of the YMCA’s Pennington Branch, Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce committees and the noard of the Better Business Bureau.
The 61-year-old Republican has lived in Walker for 17 years, and works as a senior sales account representative for The Daily Star.
She is married to Larry “Davis” Gryzbac, and has three children and three grandchildren.
