7th-grader takes part in leaders conference
Ryan M. Bishop participated in the National Young Leaders State Conference this summer in Birmingham, Ala.
Prior to attending the conference, five mentors assessed his strengths and opportunities for growth, his family said.
Attendees at the conference worked towards building a working toolkit of strategies to help them successfully dream, create, and implement their plans that will change how they view their role as community leaders.
NYLSC accepts youth in grades six through nine, who demonstrate maturity, academic excellence and leadership potential.
Ryan was nominated by his former teacher Amy Desrosiers while he was a student at Gray’s Creek Elementary, where he was selected as Student of the Year for the 2010-2011 school year. He is a seventh-grade student at Juban Parc Junior High, where he maintains a 4.0 average, participates in the Gifted, Talented Art and Talented Theater programs, and is a member of the band and track team.
He is the son of Robert and Alana Bishop, of Port Vincent. His maternal grandparents are Carey and Phyllis Mack, of Port Vincent, and his paternal grandparents are Jess and Lori Bishop, of Alexandria.
