Night Out Against Crime set

The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, the city of Walker and the Walker Police Department will host a Night Out Against Crime from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Sidney Hutchinson Park.

Representatives from two dozen law enforcement agencies will be at the event, organizers said.

Activities will include tours of the Livingston Parish sheriff’s helicopter, the special response vehicle and the Fire Protection District’s smokehouse. High-tech crime-fighting equipment will also be on display.

There will be carnival rides, a rock climbing wall and inflatables, organizers said. Free food will also be available.

Boating safety course

A boating safety course presented by Flotilla will be offered at 9 a.m. Aug. 18 at the Bass Pro Shop, second floor seminar room, 175 Bass Pro Blvd., Denham Springs. The cost is $25.

The course meets the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries requirements, organizers said. Topics include introduction to boating, safety equipment, boating law, navigation, boating problems, storing and protecting boats, hunting and fishing, water-skiing and river boating. Golf tournament

Women Outreaching Women, a nonprofit organization in Livingston Parish for battered women and children, will sponsor a golf tournament to raise money to support the shelter. The tournament is Oct. 7 at Greystone Country Club, 9214 Greystone Drive, Denham Springs.

Registration will begin at noon, and a shotgun start will begin at 2 p.m.

The entry fee is $500 for a four-person team. The fee includes 18 holes of golf, dinner, prizes, a poker run and a silent auction. The group will raffle a membership to Greystone and a new vehicle, organizers said.

Another golf tournament

The Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce will host a golf tournament Oct. 15 at Greystone Country Club. Lunch will be at 11:30 a.m., and a shotgun start will begin at 1 p.m.

Road closure

Eden Church Road in Livingston Parish will be closed to through traffic from Adam Drive to Prince Charles Drive until October.

To access North Park Recreation facilities, residents should take Lockhart Road.

Motorists can also detour on Hatchell Lane by turning right on Cockerham Road and then turning right on Lockhart Road.

Lockhart Road intersects Eden Church Road a little over a mile south. Motorists can also detour on Burgess Avenue by turning left on Lockhart Road, which intersects with Eden Church Road a little over a mile north of Burgess Avenue.
