Seminar to give tips on email marketing
The Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southeastern Louisiana University and the Amite City Chamber of Commerce will host a seminar on email marketing for small businesses from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Aug. 24 at the Amite Chamber Office, 101 Southeast Central Ave.
The free seminar, “The Power of Email Marketing for Small Business Owners and Entrepreneurs,” will aim to teach participants how to master email marketing communications with a comprehensive look at best practices and winning strategies for getting and keeping quality subscribers, increasing deliverability and open rates, writing good headlines and content, saving time, getting readers to take action, and more.

Basketball coaches, players to reunite
The Great Basketball Reunion of 2012 will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 18 at LaFleur’s Restaurant, 6865 Magnolia Beach Road, Denham Springs. SLU to offer ACT preparation courses
Southeastern Louisiana University’s Division of Extended Studies is offering the ACT Preparation Course on its main campus and regional locations.
The five-week offerings will be held on SLU’s main campus in Hammond, at the Livingston Literacy and Technology Center, 9261 Florida Boulevard in Walker, and the St. Tammany Center, 21454 Koop Drive, in Mandeville.
In Hammond, Amy Gibson will teach three sessions of the ACT Prep Course. The first session will consist of four Monday classes with the final class being held on Wednesday. The other two sessions will be held on Mondays. The courses will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at a cost of $250 with all materials covered. Dates of the sessions include: Session 1: Aug. 20 – Sept. 5; Session 2: Sept. 24 – Oct. 22; Session 3: Nov. 5 – Dec. 3.

All Walker classes will be held on Thursdays. Dates of the sessions include: Session 1: Sept. 20 – Oct. 25; Session 2: Nov. 1 – Dec. 6.

Boating safety course scheduled
A boating safety course will be offered at 9 a.m. Aug. 18 at the Bass Pro Shops, second floor seminar room, 175 Bass Pro Blvd., Denham Springs. The cost is $25.
The course meets the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries requirements, organizers said. Topics include introduction to boating, safety equipment, boating law, navigation, boating problems, storing and protecting boats, hunting and fishing, water-skiing and river boating.
