WOW sells discount fireworks

Women Outreaching Women plans to sell discount fireworks until July 5 at 26852 4-H Club Road, Denham Springs.

WOW also will showcase artwork by local artists.

Proceeds from fireworks sales will benefit WOW, a nonprofit organization in Livingston Parish that operates an emergency shelter for women and children fleeing domestic violence.

School personnel honored

The Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce’s Education Committee will honor support personnel, teachers and principals of the year July 11 at Forrest Grove Plantation, 8743 Stephenson Drive, Denham Springs.

Check-in begins at 11:30 a.m. and the program and lunch will start at noon. Rep. Rogers Pope will be the speaker. The cost is $16 per person, and includes lunch.

Support personnel of the year are: Sheli Harris, secretary, French Settlement High School; Toni Bennett, paraprofessional, Gray’s Creek Elementary; Francis Vaughn, food service, South Fork Elementary; Tina Stevenson, custodian, Levi Milton Elementary; and Lisa Stewart, bus driver, Walker High School.

Teachers of the year are Jamie Griffin, North Live Oak Elementary; Leanne Payne, Southside Junior High; and Margaret Westmoreland, Walker High School.

Principals of the year are Staci Milton, Seventh Ward Elementary; Myra Homes, Southside Junior High; and Dana Nolan, Walker Freshman High.

Princess tea party

Tickets go on sale Monday for Abundant Life Church’s third annual “God’s Little Princess Tea Party” for girls age 3 through fifth grade. The tea will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 28 in “The Rock.”

Those participating are asked to come dressed in their “sparkly best with ribbons and boas and glitter galore,” organizers said. Participants will be royally served tea and tasty delights by royal maidens in the royal court. The event will feature activities, games, gifts and a royal storyteller, organizers said.

DSHS Class of 1955

The Denham Springs High School Class of 1955 will hold an informal get-together from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Big Mike’s Sports Bar and Grill.

Commodity pickup
