Amite Elementary Magnet School kindergarten students visited Liuzza Produce Farms in Independence just before the end of the school year. The trip was of their project-based lesson on plants. Cheri Morsetalked to the children about the farm and the products it produces. The children also met Elizabeth Liuzza, farm owner and Jennifer Bickford, tour guide. Liuzza introduced the students to Jeanine Elgin, Amite Winn Dixie store director; and Shirley Riley, of CMS/HC Brill Co.
The students picked strawberries, planted beans, rode on wagons and buggies, observed animals and toured the farm on a large trailer pulled by a tractor.
