VFW to host Memorial Day event

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7017 will hold at Memorial Day service 10 a.m. Monday at Evergreen Memorial Park located behind Seale Funeral Home, 1720 S. Range Ave, Denham Springs.

Library grand opening

The Livingston Parish Library will host a grand opening ceremony for its new main branch at 20390 Iowa Street, at 10 a.m. Friday, and an open house at the new facility from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. State, parish, and local representatives plan to attend, and library officials will give tours of the new branch.

Other entertainment planned includes a puppet show, a family scavenger hunt, a Playstation 3 party for teens and make-and-take crafts.

Adoption Day planned

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Livingston will hold a pet adoption day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Walker Walgreens at U.S. 190 and Walker South Road. For more information, call (225) 788-6940.

Vacation Bible School set

Emmanuel Baptist Church, 10453 Arnold Road, Denham Springs, will offer a Fun Day to kick off its annual Vacation Bible School from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Vacation Bible School will start at 6 p.m. June 4. A commencement is set for June 10 at 6 p.m. The theme this year is “Amazing Wonders Aviation.”

Vacation Bible School will feature Bible study, crafts, refreshments and music. Children from 3 years old to sixth grade are welcome to attend, organizers said.

CHILP meeting scheduled

The June meeting of the Citizens for Highways and Infrastructure of Livingston Parish will be at 6:30 p.m. June 5 at the Denham Springs-Walker Library at U.S. 190 and Eden Church Road.

The guest speaker will be Walker Mayor Bobby Font, who will talk about Walker’s growth as well as new road projects from the Metropolitan Planning Organization.

Drawing camp offered

The Livingston Parish Arts Council will offer a children’s drawing camp from 10 a.m. to noon, June 6-8.

The camp is available for children in second grade through fifth grade. Participants will learn to draw landscapes, people, animals, and a still life. The instructor will be Marica Arnold Eisworth.

WAFB News Chief Meteorologist Jay Grymes will talk about hurricanes and what to expect during the 2012 hurricane season at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Denham Springs-Walker Library, 239 Florida Ave., S.E., Denham Springs.
