Ponchatoula clinic will open Monday
North Oaks Walk-In Clinic — Ponchatoula will open Monday at 530 W. Pine St., Suite 1. Members of the North Oaks Physician Group team will provide treatment for most illnesses and minor injuries for infants ages 3 months and older to senior adults. No appointment is needed.
Initial clinic hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.
“We’re excited about the opportunity to offer convenient health-care options to Ponchatoula,” said Sean Casteel, North Oaks assistant vice president of clinics.
“Our family of walk-in clinics provide the ease of medical attention without an appointment and are a great alternative to using the ER when you do not have an actual life-threatening emergency.”
North Oaks Walk-In Clinics also are located in Hammond, Livingston and Walker.

SLU library offers way to battle stress
Students at Southeastern Louisiana University are invited to shake off stress and hug it out with a furry friend. On Thursday, the university’s Sims Memorial Library will team up with the St. Tammany Humane Society to bring in some puppies and dogs to help students who are dealing with stress before finals.
“We see a lot of stressed-out students here,” said Beth West, distance learning librarian. “The library is the epicenter of student studying on campus, and we wanted to provide them with a little break — a chance to get rid of some of their stress.”
The Humane Society will provide five dogs for students to play with, cuddle or just hold under the breezeway of the library from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Students are encouraged to interact with the animals as part of a stress relief method called dog therapy. All of the dogs are eligible for adoption.
Livingston chamber will hold job fair
The Livingston Parish Chamber will host a Business and Community Expo and Job Fair from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Forrest Grove Plantation, Denham Springs.
Food vendors will offer samplings of their favorite dishes and health-care providers throughout the parish, including North Oaks Health System and Our Lady of the Lake, will offer free health screenings.
Local presenters for the parish’s Comprehensive Master Plan will be on hand to gather public input on the project, organizers said.
“We recognize the need for an expo in Livingston Parish, and as a chamber, it really is our duty to embrace that role,” said April Wehrs, Chamber executive director.
“Expos promote a ‘shop local’ event and draw attention to the businesses that are located in the parish.”
To register or to receive more information about the event, call the chamber office at (225) 665-8155.
