Master Gardeners group installs officers for 2012
The Tangipahoa Master Gardeners Association, an all-volunteer arm of the LSU AgCenter, installed new officers for the 2012 year. Elected were Annie Coco, vice president; Bernard West, secretary; Janet Cieutat, treasurer; and Sandra Madere, reporter. Elected to the executive board for a term of two years were Joan Morse and Russel Madere. Tootie Calmes was elected to fill the unexpired term of a retiring board member, joining Jarold Smith. Both will serve for another year.
The mission statement of the Master Gardeners is gardening education. Upcoming educational events include Home Orchard Workshop Feb. 24 at the Hammond Research Station. The cost is $15 per person, and includes lunch and all materials. On Feb. 26, the group will host the annual Camellia Stroll in the Hody Wilson Garden on the grounds of the Hammond Research Station. The event is free. On March 10, the organization will host the Spring Garden Day on the grounds of the Hammond Research Station. The cost is $5 per car. The event will feature children’s activities, educational presentations, guest speakers, plants for sale, venders, and gardening advise from the master gardeners.
