Deadline is Feb. 28 for 2012 crop year
The last day for Livingston and East Baton Rouge parish producers to apply for the 2012 crop year is Feb 28. Producers can apply for Noninsured Assistance Program coverage on grass for grazing and hay, and summer seeded vegetables such as peas, watermelons, tomatoes and okra.
The NAP program provides protection from catastrophic natural disasters up to 50 percent of an established yield and 55 percent of an established price. Application fees are paid in each parish that a producer has an interest in a crop at a cost of $250 per crop not to exceed $750 per producer per parish and $1875 per producer for all parishes.
There are no provisions for late-filed applications and closing dates vary by crop and are scheduled throughout the year.

‘Night, Mother’ to open Feb. 15
The Southeastern Louisiana University theater program will stage its first production of the season, “Night, Mother,” the week of Feb. 15 in Vonnie Borden Theatre, SLU campus.
Written by American playwright Marsha Norman in 1983, the play will be performed at 7:30 p.m. from Wednesday through Feb. 18.
Tickets are free for SLU students with their ID, $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and students from other universities. The play is considered adult content.
Lane closures set for Interstate 12
The right lanes on the eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 12 will be closed between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday through Feb. 16 for workers to install concrete barriers and deliver materials.
Motorists are urged to use Florida Boulevard as an alternate route.
Chefs Evening tickets available
Southeastern Louisiana University will kick off its largest fundraiser with the President’s Toast, which has become a prelude to Chefs Evening, thanks to the exclusive sponsorship of La Capitol Federal Credit Union.
On April 1, President John L. Crain will welcome guests to the president’s residence for the President’s Toast from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Guests will be escorted to Chefs Evening, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Pennington Student Activity Center.
Proceeds from the event directly benefit SLU’s academic programs and, ultimately, SLU students. Chefs Evening tickets are $75 each and $10 for a wine glass to enter the wine tasting area. Tickets including the President’s Toast are $125 or $1,000 for a patron table including six tickets, reserved table, six tickets to the president’s toast and much more.
