Running for Office: Metro Council Dist. 6
Edwin “PaPo” Del Valle, a Democrat, is running for Metro Council District 6 against incumbent Donna Collins-Lewis.
Another candidate, Carolyn George, known by her radio listeners as Carolyn Gee, has also announced intentions of running.
District 6 is generally bordered to the south by Florida Boulevard and to the north by Greenwell Springs Road and Choctaw Drive. It’s bordered by the west by North Foster Drive and to the east by South Flannery Road.
Del Valle, 62, is a U.S. Army veteran with 21 years of service and a retired correctional officer with 20 years of service.
He has lived in Baton Rouge for 40 years, he said in a written statement of candidacy.
If elected, Del Valle said, he will work with local nonprofit organizations and government agencies to address the concerns of the district.
He said he wishes to help the homeless and the poor by working with social service agencies to improve the job market and living conditions for low-income residents.
Del Valle said he is a volunteer with the American Red Cross, Restoring Hearts, the American Legion and CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, an organization that assists children abused or neglected by their caregivers.
His campaign motto is “People First, Politics Last.”
The primary election is Nov. 6.
