River Parish Community College chancellor named

Louisiana’s community and technical college board Thursday unanimously selected Dale Doty, a South Carolina academic administrator, as the new chancellor of River Parishes Community College in Sorrento.

In replacing retired RPCC Chancellor Joe Ben Welch, Doty becomes the school’s second campus leader.

Doty, currently vice president of academic affairs at Florence Darlington Technical College in Florence, S.C., is expected to begin his job at RPCC in mid-November.

“I am humbled and honored by the opportunity to lead River Parishes Community College,” Doty said in a statement, adding that he believes the school has the potential to become one of the finest community colleges in the country.

Louisiana Community and Technical College System President Joe May, in a statement, praised Doty as being the right fit for the job as the school prepares to move into a new technology-rich campus in Gonzales.

“He has demonstrated the resolve and commitment necessary to lead River Parishes Community College to new heights,” May said.

The school has launched a fundraising campaign to come up with the 12 percent match necessary to build a planned $9 million Center for Advance Technology. The center is part of a plan to align community and technical education with the specific workforce needs in the River Parishes.

It will accommodate several programs including nursing, allied health, welding, automotive technology and disaster management.
