Forum on Baker schools slated Monday

Louisiana Development Ready Cities and the Mayor’s Office are sponsoring a Monday forum at the Municipal Building’s auditorium on improving Baker’s school system.

A steering committee working with the state Department of Economic Development said in a news release the 6 p.m. forum will focus on how residents can be engaged in enhancing the educational opportunities for Baker children.

State Education Superintendent John White, Baker Superintendent Ulysses Joseph, Baker Councilwoman Joyce Burges and Eric Lewis, director of the Black Alliance for Educational Options, have been invited to attend and participate in a panel discussion, the news release says.

The steering committee, which includes residents, business leaders and elected officials, is working on a strategic plan to improve the business climate, workforce development and quality of life in Baker.

Surveys and community meetings have been used to gauge public input, according to the department’s news release.
