Board to hear education committee’s plan

The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board will finally hear Wednesday night recommendations on methods the parish school system can use to move from near the bottom in student performance to one of the top 10 school districts in Louisiana by 2020.

A 33-member Committee for Educational Excellence, made up of local business and community leaders, developed the “strategic plan” throughout much of 2011 and released a draft in December, which has sat on a shelf ever since.

Wednesday night’s meeting will be the official unveiling of the document to the School Board — 11 months after it was developed. The meeting is set to start at 5 p.m. at the Professional Development Center, 3000 N. Sherwood Forest Blvd.

The School Board is seeking feedback on the plan.

knock off the bovine droppings and hold the parents of failing STUDENTS responsible for thier kids. that's the only way to arrest the failing and begin the reconstruction of our public schools.

The phrase "local business and community leaders" is code for the Baton Rouge Chamber. This organization has undue influence with the EBRP School Board. The members of the Chamber are essentially "outsiders," because they have no real understanding of what goes on in our inner city public schools----no true concept of the challenges facing both educators and students. Therefore, their so-called strategic plan is just "breeze pudding and air sauce." The people who should have been asked to develop a plan are teachers and parents whose children attend our schools.
