LSU marching band makes list of 10 best
LSU’s Tiger Marching Band has been named as one of the 10 best marching bands of 2011-12 by the Huffington Post.
The list, shown as a slideshow on the organization’s website, does not assign a specific ranking to the listed marching bands, but the Tiger Marching Band is the third slide shown.
A brief description of the LSU band reads: “ ‘The Golden Band From Tigerland’ ” out of Lousiana State University dazzles audiences with their consistent talent and their ‘Golden Girls.’ The band received the Sudler Trophy in 2002, and in 2008 won a contest sponsored by ESPN, Paramount Pictures and Lucasfilm called Battle of the Bands.
The Sudler Trophy is an award given out by the John Philip Sousa Foundation recognizing bands that have achieved national recognition
“The LSU Tiger Band is delighted to be selected. ... It is an honor to be in the company of the other marching bands who were selected,” LSU Director of Athletic Bands Roy King said in a statement.
The marching band, which includes the Golden Girls dance team and Colorguard, is the largest a single organization on campus, with a membership of 325 students, LSU spokeswoman Kristine M. Calongne said in a news release.
