BR, N.O. fare well for recession recovery

New Orleans and Baton Rouge were ranked in the top 25 of a new report that measures how the 150 largest cities in the U.S. have recovered from the Great Recession.

New Orleans was ranked 15th in the WalletHub study, released Monday, while Baton Rouge was ranked 25th. The report found that Laredo, Texas, had the best recovery, while San Bernardino, California, was ranked 150th.

The only other Louisiana city to make the list was Shreveport, ranked 67th.

WalletHub is a personal finance website. The report was based on comparing data from government and private sources, such as changes in the unemployment rate, median household income and bankruptcy rate to determine how much the economic environment has improved since 2007.

New Orleans saw the largest increase in home price appreciation over the period of any city. Baton Rouge had the fourth-largest decrease in the poverty rate since 2007 of any city, while Shreveport had the third-largest decrease.
