In a video posted on Kleinpeter’s Facebook page Tuesday, Jeff Kleinpeter said an inspection he conducted found that an equipment malfunction was letting diluted soapy water remain in tanks after they were cleaned, which was causing the strange taste. The equipment was replaced and new procedures were put in place to ensure soapy water was not remaining, he said. Worn valves that may have been causing refrigeration issues that led to the milk spoiling earlier than expected were also replaced, Kleinpeter said. “I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused our loyal Kleinpeter customers. I take full responsibility for these issues,” he said. An estimated 5,000 gallons of milk was voluntarily discarded by Kleinpeter for failing to meet the company’s standards. The dairy produces about 60,000 gallons of milk a day. The company said customers who have problems with Kleinpeter milk can contact the dairy at (225) 753-2121.
