East State Street development proposed East State Street development proposed BY TIMOTHY BOONE| email@example.com May 10, 2014 Comments A New Orleans developer wants to build a small planned unit development on East State Street in Baton Rouge. Rob Sobert wants to demolish a home at 541 E. State St. and put up a four-story apartment building on the site. Sobert developed Lakeview Properties, a six-unit condominium development that is located across from the house. The city-parish Planning Commission is set to vote on the SPUD at its June 16 meeting. Sobert said he plans to put 12 two-bedroom apartments on the site. The apartments would be high-end units, with amenities such as glass showers and stainless steel appliances. The plan is to attract the same sort of tenants to the new development as the ones that live in Lakeview. “We have a mixed bag of tenants: professionals, people who work for LSU and business owners,” Sobert said. If the commission approves the SPUD next month, Sobert hopes he can open the apartment building in time for the 2015 fall semester.
