IBM center in BR among deals of 2013

The IBM technology center going in downtown Baton Rouge was among five projects receiving an honorable mention in Business Facilities magazine’s Economic Development Deal of the Year competition.

Louisiana also was one of five runner-up states to Tennessee’s selection as the magazine’s State of the Year. Other runner-up states were Utah, Texas, Georgia and Pennsylvania.

IBM, which was among Business Facilities magazine’s top eight projects, will operate an 800-job software development and corporate technology solutions center in Baton Rouge to serve the company’s domestic customers.

IBM currently employs more than 100 workers in a temporary location on Essen Lane. IBM will move in 2015 to a building under construction downtown as part of a $55 million urban development.

Louisiana won the magazine’s State of the Year competition in 2010 and also gained recognition as a runner-up in 2011 and 2012.
