Baton Rouge residents carry the second-highest level of student loan debt in the country, an average of $18,165.35, according to account-management service Manilla.com.
Shreveport-area residents were No. 4 at $17,337.15. Nationally, the average student loan debt rose to $13,951.57 for the three months ended Oct. 1. At the end of June, the average student loan debt was $12,814.54.
The other top 10 markets with the most student loan debt are Memphis, Tenn., $19,507.37; Atlanta: $17,770.90; Washington, D.C.:$16,979.48; Las Vegas, $16,963.34; Albany-Schenectady-Troy, N.Y., $16,880.50; Jackson, Miss., $16,540.99; Richmond-Petersburg, Va., $16,295.02; and Chicago: $15,938.45.
